History

Founded in 1992, Certex has more than 25 years of experience in the operation of a sorting centre for the recovery and reuse of textiles. To ensure a permanent operating base and as a result of the evaluation of the long-term needs related to its activities, Certex built a modern plant to handle textiles. In 2002, Certex opened the doors of its new 44,000 sq. ft. plant in Saint-Hubert. In 2014, Certex opened a second plant in Terrebonne.

Certex has experienced sharp growth and is proud to be able to pursue its activities, ever focused on its dual mission. Today, Certex has the largest sorting and reuse facility of its kind in Quebec.

After more than 20 years of activity, Certex has the largest textile sorting and reuse facility of its type in Quebec and stands out because of its dual mission, the organization’s commitment and its social impact. Our organization is growing day-by-day and our success allows us to continuously employ more than one hundred people who have functional limitations: physical or intellectual handicaps.

When the talk is of community economics in the borough of Longueuil, Certex is regularly mentioned as an organization that is making a difference. The organization’s reach allows it to be a reference.

Among the numerous achievements in 2012, our team is especially proud of having:

  • Donated more than $250,000 to community organizations so that each could follow its specific mission;
  • Pursued the education program we offer our employees to allow them to obtain their Secondary V / High School Graduation equivalency;
  • Thanks to Moisson Rive-Sud, carried out the distribution of food aid valued at more than $231,000;
  • Spread our message on numerous local and regional media.

The results are convincing and a testament to the determination and passion of an experienced team, a committed Board of Directors and loyal partners. For Certex, achieving excellence is not simply a level of performance and profitability, but especially the management of Human Resources, operations, social involvement and a contribution to the community.

We are fortunate to be one of the change players at the heart of the social economy. Significantly contributing to economic effectiveness, social equality and protecting the environment, the three pillars of sustainable development, allows us to target excellence and assure our place in the community. This means we can make a difference for the most vulnerable people and organizations, locally.

Dear Partners, Dear Friends,

The primary mission of Certex is to create employment for, and integrate into the workforce, people with functional limitations: physical or intellectual handicaps. This is achieved with the operation of a major environmental initiative: a textile recovery and sorting centre for reuse, the largest of its kind in Quebec.

This mission and our operations face constant challenges and recent years have shown that our employees, managers and partners are committed to sustaining the growth of Certex for years to come.

The CERTEX mission is to intensively support individuals who work daily as full-fledged citizens. Their valuable contribution gives them dignity, peace of mind and pride which should be possible for every member of society.

The coming year again offers us large and appealing challenges of consolidation and growth. I am confident that all the resources in place, both internal and external, will work together to ensure the sustainability of this worthy cause.

I take this opportunity to thank the managers for their assiduous and vigilant contributions. I also thank our outstanding Executive Director and her dynamic team.

We are grateful of course to our partners, public and private, and particularly the Quebec Office for Handicapped People (OPHQ), Emploi-Québec, the CLD of Longueuil, Conseil québécois des entreprises adaptées (CQEA) and the Mouvement Desjardins for their exceptional support of our magnificent cause.

Bravo to all of you and long life to CERTEX!

Jean-Sylvain Pelletier, Chairman of the Board
